Restoring an old vintage building or updating a 1890 farmhouse is much more complicated than the average home renovation. Some contractors don't see the value in preserving the character and integrity of a home built 120 years ago, while some others don't understand what makes historical renovations different from any other renovation, often destroying the beaurty along the way.
The odd spacing of beams, configuration of walls, lack of structural support as well as decaying electrical and plumbing systems makes many contractors recommend just leveling these structures.
A successful vintage restoration project requires a real understanding and appreciation of the underlying structure. Knowldege of the materials used during the period as well as the building styles used, allows us to blend old and new together and bring these homes up to date all while enhancing their beauty and history.
